We are back from the surgeon and up from a much needed nap! I have a breast MRI scheduled for Monday afternoon. This will help to determine if there are any other tumors on either side.
I have “Infiltrating (aka invasive) Lobular Carcinoma”. (see websites at the bottom for more info) This is the 2nd most common type but occur in only 15% of the breast cancer cases. At this time I have been placed at a stage 2. This may changed based on the Lymph Node Biopsy that will happen during surgery.
Surgery will happen no matter what however we will need to decide the surgery that we want to move forward with. We learned a lot about the disease, our choices and the misconceptions that are out there about the choice we have to make. Radiation and/or Chemo may happen no matter which surgery choice I make. I am very happy with the way Dr. Fox explained the entire picture.
The Lymph Node Biopsy will tell us if the cancer is metastatic – basically if the cancer has spread outside the breast. If this is true then chemo is going to happen and I am then moved to a higher stage. We will not know this until the day after surgery. Also, if the tumor is determined to be an aggressive type when they study it after the surgery I could also be moved to a higher stage and given chemo.
Jim and I have a lot of talking to do and plan to be prepared to make our decision when we get the results of the MRI.
Thank you again for all the support.
