So far so good

It has been only about 24 hours into my second chemo treatment and things are going pretty good.  The new adjustments to my meds seem to have helped with the stomach issues the first day and a half.  I have not had any stomach pain as I was having the first time around.  I am hoping that this will continue throughout.  The nausea has been managed with my continued use of the nausea med throughout the process.

I had some minor leg swelling which is typical and is usually fluid retention.  It definitely was fluid retention since last night when the reaction flipped off I got rid of a significant amount of fluid.  Wish it didn’t have to happen throughout the night but will take not having swollen legs any more.  Slept in a bit to make up for the significant interruption of sleep that happened.

The standard side effects are still there.  I am weak and very tired.  I have a sore throat and my hair is continuing to thin and fall out in some chunks now.

The only real issue is dealing with getting my medical records so I can get one more week of short term disability since I was scheduled to go back to work yesterday.  Not a good time to start back up since I spent a good 6 hours in the hospital.  I had started the process last week but with some really slow people I am struggling to get the information actually sent.  Ugh.  Spent a good chunk of time on the phone today trying to figure out where everything is at.  Hopefully we will have this resolved quickly.

The next test for side effects will be starting tomorrow.  Tomorrow is about when I started getting the joint pain last time.  I am hoping that some of the changes that we made will make this side effect better.  Guess we will know sometime in the next three days.  Wish me luck! 🙂

Thank you again for all your prayers.

Melanie: You are doing great. One day at a time. I’m glad you have such a wonderful support system in Jim, Cody, your DQ friends, other friends and family. Do not be shy to lean on any and all of them. We’re all put on this earth to love, help, and support one another. Thank you for keeping us up-to-date on how you are doing. It helps us to better direct our prayers and support. You are a beautiful lady (always have been).

Hi Melanie,
You are in my prayers. Try ice chips for your sore throat. You may also want to ask the doctor if you can gargle and swoosh with Biotene. You may want to try mashed potatoes when you are hungry. When Frank was going through Chemo the Compazene helped with the nausea but everything tasted like metal to him. The nurses told him to try mashed potatoes to stabilize that metallic taste; they were right and they tasted good to him and helped his stomach. I would be happy to help you make some calls if you need some help. We miss you but know we will see you very soon!

I hope all goes better this time around! And if you aren’t up for dealing with insurance companies, etc. I’d be happy to make those calls for you!
