Yesterday was my last radiation treatment! Yay! 🙂 When I got to my final appointment the nurses were so great. They even gave me a “woo hoo” when the treatment was completed and they came into the room to get me off the table. They also indulged my wishes of pictures and wished me well. I am so very thankful that there are people in this world that have the compassion and courage to be in this medical field. I could not have been able to get through this process without their continued smiling faces cheering me on daily. I have put pictures below from my last day. The three women are the radiation therapists that performed my radiation daily. The other picture is Dr. B’s nurse. Dr. B was not there that day so unfortunately I was not able to get a pic with him.

My work was awesome too. I wore a wig on Friday and brought all my scarves and head-covers. My department all grabbed something from my array of headwear and we took a great picture. My team also gave me beautiful flowers in celebration of my day. They have all been so very supportive through all of this and I am very blessed to have them as my work family.

Jim and I celebrated by having dinner at our favorite watering hole with our favorite waitresses. We then came home and had a fire since it was so nice out. We then spent a good hour or so playing music and decided to stay in the camper for the night. It was a great way to celebrate the end of this chapter.
I have envisioned my journey like chapters in a book. My first chapter was diagnosis, then surgery, chemo and then radiation. Four chapters have been written. I feel as if I am standing on the blank page waiting to start chapter five. There’s some time before we have to do anything for the next chapter. I look forward to just being here on the blank page, living life instead of concentrating on surviving. I am looking forward to my skin healing and being able to sleep on my left side again. We have also started getting the camper ready for hunting. It is nice that all of my treatments are done just in time for the hunting season!
Just for giggles, I figured out the amount of driving that I did for my 33 radiation treatments. 29 of the days I drove from work which was 20.8 miles one way. 4 of the days I drove from home which was 13.1 miles. Adding everything together just to go to radiation I drove 1311.2 miles. If you add the 24 miles to travel to and from work on those 29 days you can add another 1392 miles. That’s a whopping 2703 miles traveled over that time. This concludes our math lesson for the day. 🙂
