Over the last seven months I have had moments of utter panic, feelings of complete hopelessness and a level of stress beyond comprehension. As I continue to traverse these varying feelings and stressful situations I am constantly reaching for that place of peace within.
We recently traveled up north to go camping/hunting with family. The nice thing about where we go camping is that you get to unplug from the world. Even though this trip had its own catastrophes there were times of peace. This got me to wondering how do we find that inner peace in our lives. I believe that it is most likely different for each person. What may cause me peace may cause someone else significant stress.
Reading a good book or listening to music have always been great ways for me to center my being. Depending on the situation, however, I have been able to find that peace in places that seem unusual.
As I have been dealing with the health issues I have had this year, I have, oddly enough, found peace in work. Its interesting that simply putting my mind to a task at work (usually an Excel spreadsheet :)) helps me to let go of the stresses that are bouncing around my brain. I believe that dealing with something that is normal and routine for me, helps me to lessen the stresses of the things I cannot control.
I also found peace on the seat of a 4 wheeler. There is something very raw about barreling down a dirt road with the gas and oil smell surrounding you that is cleansing. The noise so loud that you cannot hear anything else, trees flying by and your hands getting cold from the wind.
I have also found peace in what seems to be a very normal spot. The woods. There were times this last weekend that I stood on a wooded dirt road as the wind blew the leaves down around me. If I let myself relax enough it was almost dreamlike as time seemed to slow with each leaf as it fell. There is always something absolutely peaceful about the sun warming you on a crisp fall day. Sitting around a fire on a cool night watching the stars until our necks were sore brought peace to my core. A picture from this weekend is below.
Where do you find your peace? How do you get to that inner core where you can breathe slowly and allow the world to slow?

That was awesome. Peace can always be where we can find within us a source of the familiar. You were very blessed to have this time to just be. i love you.
