Impressed and thankful for caller ID

Not too many people call us on our home phone.  If we do not recognize the phone number we typically let it go to voicemail.  I am very happy that Mayo had let me know the name of the surgeon that we were scheduled to see tomorrow and I was extremely surprised that his name popped up on the caller ID tonight.

I am impressed with the fact that he called me personally this evening.  He let me know that he is retiring at the end of this year and will not be able to perform my surgery.  He didn’t want me to make the trip all the way to Rochester when I would have to do it again to meet with a different surgeon.  He talked to me for a bit and I was amazed that he was so willing to not only call me but also was willing to make everything right.  He said to give him until 10 tomorrow and he will have me scheduled with a new surgeon that he is personally picking out for me.  He said there are 3-4 surgeons that he would be comfortable with them performing surgery on one of his family members.  He assured me that he would make sure I am taken care of with the best surgeon he knows. He even gave me his cell number and priority pager number to call him if he has not called me by 10.  I am so impressed that he didn’t just have the scheduling desk reschedule me to a new surgeon.  It shows so much character that he contacted me directly and is handling my rescheduling.  It’s too bad that he is retiring.  He seemed like a very good choice.

So, we wait till tomorrow.  We are not sure if we will be making a trip to Mayo tomorrow or a different day however we will just make the schedule work the way it needs to.  Guess we will be heading to work tomorrow, at least for part of the day.  Since I will need to potentially adjust my schedule this week it is best if I work when I can.

Apparently God must think that I need to work on my patience skills.  By the time I am done with all of this my patience will be as thick as the snow in NY is deep.  Sheesh.  🙂

The network you have available to you is wonderful. But Melanie, there is a quality about you that draws it out of people. You are a magnet and there is a light to all of this! You have been an inspiration to me to calm my work life and make a change. It’s a scary step but nothing compared to what you’ve accomplished. … hope to see you soon.

God is giving you good people in your life right now. You will have the best possible surgeon, I know it!

Not at all surprised; that’s the way Mayo operates and it’s so opposite of most clinics, it seems unreal. He WILL get his best choice for you and everything will go swimmingly. I am just so glad you’re in Mayo’s hands.

It sounds like you are in good hands. You are on many prayer chains at this time and will be there until you are completely done and cancer free all over your body. You really have more strength and patience than most people. I love you so very much. God Bless you.

Well, he already called me back and I am meeting the new surgeon tomorrow at the same time that I was supposed to be there anyway. Guess I am not going to work tomorrow. Will try to work from home in the morning. Glad I don’t have to adjust my schedule and wait again. Maybe it was a “just kidding” moment in my patience training. 🙂
