I am done with my second week at home. Things are going very well with recovery. As of today I am down another two pounds so a total of 17 so far. I am not needing any pain meds anymore and am happy to be able to be free of the need of them.
The biggest thing I am dealing with right now is the fatigue. I get tired after doing a little bit. After showering I usually lay down for about 10 minutes but the nurses had told me that showering is fairly strenuous on the body and that is normal. This week I have gone to the store, out to dinner and we made dinner for the robotics team. 🙂 Dinner was not as successful as I had hoped. I wanted to try fish but ordered walleye and after the second bite finding a second bone I just couldn’t take the risk. I was able to eat the broccoli cheese soup and the mashed potatoes. Feeling disappointed at home I had some sugar free pudding and I over did it a bit and had my first instance of the dumping syndrome. It was not fun. It wasn’t anything specific that I ate, it was just too much at once. So, lesson learned. Know when to stop.
Yesterday was a busy day as my team came to visit me in the afternoon. Thank you so much for making the drive to the house and spending time with me. I was so nice to just sit and talk with you all for some time. Recovery can be lonely during the weekday sometimes. I then worked on getting dinner ready for the robotics team. We brought a big roaster (big turkey size) full of meatballs, a large pot of rice and crock pot of gravy. No kidding, I think that they may have tried to lick out the pans. It was a long day and I slept in a good hour later this morning due to extra activity.
I am fully on soft foods. Pasta is the easiest to eat. I had fried SPAM and it was very easy as well too. As I am sitting here I am finally trying to see if I can have my favorite cappuccino and see how it sits. So far so good but keep your fingers crossed. I got some tilapia for lunch and am going to try that now. I still haven’t tried any bread products and am going to wait a bit for that. I have picked up some pasta, egg and tuna salad at the deli to have something easy for me to eat without having to do any preparation. This is good for those in-between meals. I eat around 5-6 times a day.
Thank you everyone that has sent cards and well wishes. I appreciate all of the support! We are planning to go to the RV show this weekend and also may go out and see some friends. Looking forward to spending time with Jim tomorrow as Cody will be at a scrimmage for robotics all day. On to week three. 🙂
