It’s been a busy day! The night was uneventful as expected. I started fasting at midnight for the hopes to have my scope today. They let me shower this morning and before I was done they came in and told me that they were coming to get me for my scope soon. I quickly got out of the shower and got ready to go. I had enough time to talk with Jim quick and let him know that they were doing the scope this morning.
I learned that I had Dr. Martin was going to be my doctor for the scope. This was a surprise as I have had Dr. Martin before for a dilation. I didn’t mind because he was very nice and both Jim and I were impressed with how he talked to us before and after the procedure. Today wasn’t too different. Dr. Martin came in and discussed with me his plan. He was going to take a look at the situation and then dilate me according to how small it was today. He also was going to do the steroid injections. He said that this has had some luck in people being able to go longer in between dilations. He said that this hasn’t been consistently beneficial to patients but there wasn’t any negative side effect from doing it so it makes sense to try. He even called Jim prior to the procedure to let him know what his plan was. I had asked to somehow use a phone to let Jim know the plan and he offered to call him personally.
As always, I took a nap and woke up in recovery. I have been back in the room now for a few hours and have not seen any doctors to discuss next steps. I feel pretty good. I am a little sore but was able to eat lunch pretty easily. The nurses are confused still at why I am here and quite honestly I am too. I am not certain what more they want or can do. I am eating now so another scope is out of the question. I have not seen there “special” endoscopic doctor and don’t even know the name of the doctor that they want me to see. I know Kendrick’s team is in surgery today so I am hoping that someone will stop in at some point this afternoon. If they are not doing anything else I am going to push to go home today. There is no need for me to sit here unless I am going to have another procedure or see this other doc.
So, I wait. I took a little nap but as always in a hospital, sleep is not something that happens on the patients schedule as they have to do vitals and otherwise bug you when you are drifting off. Oh well. At least I can basically do what I want. They showed me the snack station and I have been able to go get coffee and other stuff when I want. I am torn. I want to go home so part of me wants them to just let me go but I also want to get this resolved more permanently so I want to see this other doc to see if there is anything else I can do. Dr. Martin says that it takes quite a few dilations to get it to stay open and that there is really nothing else that can be done since the stent didn’t work.
In the middle of writing this the nurse came in and she was able to get a hold of Kendrick’s PA and have let them know that I am back from the EGD and am looking to know what’s next. Not sure if that will speed things up but, hey, it’s a good try. I am willing to try anything at this point.
They just let me know that I am going home. Yay!! Should be home later tonight. 🙂
