After a few days of working with Michelle down at Mayo I was able to get Dr. Kendrick to sign off for Dr. Martin to be one of the endoscopic doctors that can do my dilations. This is extremely helpful as the person that he wanted me to see was very hard to get in to see in a timely manner. I was able to sneak into Dr. Martin’s schedule today and have my dilation completed again with the steroid shots. He was able to get me up to about 12 mm this time. He is recommending that I come in again in about two and a half weeks so he can work to get me open even more. He has put that in my chart so I can call and have Michelle set it up for me. He said that if I am not noticing any change by the week of the appointment that I can always move it out or cancel but it is best to set it up now.
During the dilation process he found another staple from surgery that he removed. He found two the first time he performed my dilation. He couldn’t be certain but he said that it is possible that the staples are adding to the situation with the stricture. This actually makes perfect sense to me. With how I reacted to the stent in my esophagus I could imagine that the staples are causing that area some distress. Hopefully the combination that he has removed the staple, injected the steroids and completed the dilation that I am on the road to getting this situation resolved.
I feel so much better now that I have a plan in place and all my doctors are on board with the plan. It just took a little direction from me on how I wanted my care to be facilitated. I have not talked with Dr. Kendrick personally but Michelle has assured me that he will be fine with how I have requested to have my “care plan” to be adjusted.
