Yep, today is my birthday. It marks another year that I have been blessed to be on this earth with my family and friends. It is the start of a new year for me. My plan is that my 44th year on this planet will be a bit smoother than the last. I also completely understand that my plan and reality are two completely different things. My plan usually has a lot of down time to think, clean my house, keep up on laundry and easily navigate my ever changing workload at my job. Well, most of that is nothing but a dream.
However, plan Mel is going well with my medical care. I have been eating pretty well and have my next dilation appointment this Thursday. Dr. Martin thinks that he may be able to get me up to 15mm. That would be wonderful and that would be more than I have been yet! The dilation results are notably lasting longer as I have now lasted almost 2 weeks. This is longer than I have lasted yet. Yay! They did see an infection again so I have been back on the Nystatin to take care of it. This is apparently normal when they are having to continually put the scope down there and do the dilations. Finally! I am starting to see a little light at the end of the “roto rooter” track.
I am thrilled as for my birthday the whole family is here! We are headed out to dinner soon and will enjoy some phenomenal Italian at my favorite place with my favorite people. Can’t ask for anything more than that! As my birthday has gotten closer I have spent a lot of time reflecting on this last year. As much as I have learned over the year I am now even more focused on the future. I am almost done with being in the ring with the stricture and I am gaining ground. I will get through this and get onto my process of eating so I am being healthy and maintaining my weight. My future without cancer is looking very good! 🙂

Happy Birthday, Mel! So glad to read that the dilations are lasting longer and getting bigger. Congratulations!
