Struggling to find balance

When life becomes busy life, I apparently struggle.  For the last year I have been doing well with maintaining my weight, eating throughout the day and basically finding a balance with my routine.

Now take Jim’s mother passing away and life at work becoming very busy and that balance seems to disappear.

About a month ago Jim’s mother passed away.  It was not unexpected but the aftermath is what you do not anticipate.  When we sold her house years ago we could not physically handle all of the clean up that needed to happen with her things.  We ended up just boxing it up and throwing it into a storage unit.  Now that the cost of that storage unit is impacting others we have to clean it out.  It needed to happen anyway but the urgency is more.

This has propelled us into a basic “burning the candles at both ends” routine.  We go to work, come home, go to the storage unit and fill up the truck with stuff.  Go through it and donate what isn’t something we think is important and then crash for the night.  We have started recognizing the people that work at the thrift shops.  Not necessarily a good sign.  Add a busy work day and breakfast becomes crackers on the run and coffee.  Lunch becomes a quick meal and not much snacking happening during the day.  I have found that my level of energy has been down a bit too.

This was all going pretty well until Cody came home.  Don’t get me wrong, I love that he is home.  However, you see, when the boy moved back from college he brought some friends with him.  Not the ones that eat your food but the ones that make you sick.  Yep, Cod-man brought back a nasty virus.  Well, you take that virus and add it to two people that are already run down and you get two very, very sick and sad adults.  Obviously, I do not blame Cody as he was sick too but to have both Jim and I really sick at the same time is not a good thing.  We missed a ton of work days (during a time where we really couldn’t afford to miss) and we basically slept for about three days straight.

Now, let talk about being sick without a stomach.  This was a flu like sickness.  Congestion, coughing, fever, aches, nose running a mile an hour and a general icky feeling.  This meant that we were horizontal not vertical.  That is what was needed for feeling better but not good if you do not have a stomach.  I lost five pounds in the three days that I was home sick from work.  Not good.  Not only have I not been able to gain it back, I am now on a trend of losing weight.

We are now feeling better but we have to be out of the storage unit by the end of the month.  Yep, only a few days left.  We have spent every day going to the storage unit, going to donate stuff and repeat.  Basically the same process as before but now every single day.  I have dropped another four pounds in the last few days.  I am now at the lowest weight I have been since my surgery.

I promise that I am eating.  I am trying to maintain but the amount of energy that is being expelled is more than I can take in.  So, my balance is significantly off.  Need to find more fat food in my day of running around like a mad person.  Wishing I could find the balance that a good friend of mine talks about all the time.  Hoping in the end things can look more like this.

So sorry to hear you two have been sick, right along with Cody. Here’s hoping you can find the right foods to bring you back to more energy and feeling better, and also to regain some needed pounds. I truly know what stress can do to one’s body. Hang in there, kiddo. I know you’ll find the right spot again.
