A Step Backwards

Well, we had one good weekend and now things are heading in the wrong direction with mom.  Unfortunately, this means that she will be unable to go to a memory care center until they can get her meds right so she is less aggressive.

I talked with the nurse on Wednesday and she informed me that mom had a really rough night.  Mom had woken up during the night to use the bathroom and had a really bad night.    She was swearing and yelling.  She tried to bite one of the nurses.  She was throwing things and threw a jacket over one of the other patients.  When they got her back into her room to go back to bed, she tried to go into the closet to sleep.  They finally got her back to bed.  They contacted Dr. Simon the Psychiatrist about her meds.  He decided to up her trazadone at night and her gabapentin as well.  This is to try to help the nights go better.  They also took some blood work on Wednesday to determine if there is an infection.  They will also check her Depakote levels to ensure that they are not out of normal range. I did ask the nurse if they would take another sample to determine if she has a bladder infection.

Today I talked with Megan, the social worker, about how last night went.  Well, it did not go any better.  Actually, it was worse.  Mom slapped one of the nurses across the face that was trying to calm her.  She has spent a lot of time sitting on the floor scooting around on her butt.  She refuses to get up and is very despondent.  She yells a lot and cries a lot.  Megan let me know that there is no way that they can discharge her with this type of behavior.  The Psychiatrist is adjusting the meds again and will see mom on Friday to determine what the next steps need to be.  The medical doctor and the nurses talked about doing another UA to see if mom has an infection.

Megan said that mom will definitely be at the hospital for the long holiday weekend.  She said the earliest that mom would be able to get discharged to the memory care center would be early next week.  The nurse is off at the Cokato center until Tuesday so they will not be able to discuss the move until then.  All of this depends on them figuring out what is going on with mom and why she is suddenly so aggressive.

Jim and I will be out of town this weekend and I will not have cell signal.  If you need to get ahold of me for an emergency please contact Jim or Steve & Trish.  You can put something on Facebook and I will get it when the truck is on.

Mom’s paperwork came today for the MA that she will get.  It looks like we should be able to afford the rent and still have a little left at the end of the month.  I will be contacting them next week to ensure I understand exactly what everything means.  At a first glance it looks like we will be okay from a financial standpoint.

Thank you for support.  I do not think I could get through this without it.
