Cody Updates by Mom

We just got notice that Cody’s surgery is now closing up. We are very thankful and extremely tired as the surgery has lasted 6.5 hours and they are not quite done. We are hoping that Cody will be getting to the room within the next hour or two.

The main surgeon, Dr. Kendrick, stopped in the room to give us an update. Surgery went well, though long. With cancer they take a lot more tissue to ensure that they are testing a significant amount of lymph nodes. They have completed some of the lymph node testing and 30 of the lymph nodes have come back negative for cancer. They also do a visual exam of the stomach and there were no visible tumors, which is good. They did see a few concerning spots which was expected. They have tested part of the stomach and no additional cancer spots have been found. The rest of the testing will be complete by next week for all of the lymph nodes and stomach.

Dr. Kendrick will be back in the morning to see how Cody is doing. He said that Cody can have fluids tonight but may not want to. He will be pushed to have fluids in the morning and to have food by tomorrow afternoon.

We are thankful for all of your thoughts and prayers. While we did not respond to the many texts and messages, we do appreciate all of those of you thinking about us during this time.

This mom is looking forward to having her kid back and being able to see and hug him.
